I got the great opportunity to read at City Lit Books in Logan Square in Chicago over the weekend, and I cannot completely express how grateful I am to see that Chicagoans will trek through the rain to support something I worked on. That support made the night one of the coolest things I've ever gotten to do in my creative life. I'll still be pushing this book, but I'm working on another, and in the coming months I'll be shifting to focus on that full time. Until then, thanks again!
At long last, Abraham is ready to be shared with the world.
Now, You Are Abraham as a larger project is taking shape. The lyrics in the music components of the project offer a glimpse into the protagonist's interior as he enters a mysterious world after hitting his head--
Can I tap into the half of my brain I don't usually have access to?
Likewise, the novel asks the question at one point, what is your interior? What is the voice that is always talking in your head? Through other explorations in the story, that voice in your head is given an elevated, spiritual status, so the music can be thought of as the expression of the spiritual shifts inside Abraham.
A full understanding of the project entails consideration of the novel with the music. There are two more EPs on the way that explore other themes in the novel. After those are finished, I will turn my attention to developing Abraham into a film.
The writing process for Abraham started in December 2014, and a little more than 2 years later, I'm entering the final stages before getting it out the door.
My editor gave me valuable and invaluable feedback and put punctuation and formatting in it to make it look like I earned my English degree, and I'm in middle of the absolutely last read through before sending it to the copyright office.
I'm meeting with an illustrator tomorrow in Venice to talk about a cover design, and I'm working with two other illustrators for the E-book cover and online content. Come to think of it, all 3 illustrators are from Chicago.
If all goes well, we're looking at a Late May, Early June release date.
More media coming soon
This song is about Abraham's meeting a friend in outer space.
We haven't met up since November 3rd. It was very nice to get back into the swing of things. This is a song called Cosmic Wave that will be on the next Abraham music release. This song is about Abraham's brief stint as an intergalactic radio broadcaster.
After about a month off, we are going to take another crack at it. I'm very excited to play with Nic and Shawn again and to get some new songs out. I'll post a video of the practice later this week. In the mean time, this is a hill in Tom Downey's backyard that Abraham makes his way up so slowly:
